The Lady Time

She nurtures and teaches, enlightens and moulds
But with relish she gives us all furrows and folds
When we need her the most, she will never be there
When we don’t, she will linger and loiter and stare
The cracks in our being are hers to control
On a good day she’ll rebuild our skin and our soul
But she won’t hold our hands if we fall into black
And when she is gone, there’s no getting her back
She loves the what ifs, when she’ll play tricks and stir
She waits for no man, but we wait for her
