Commercial fiction vs literary fiction + story updates

metamorphose-header

Good evening Earth. This week I’m talking about a popular conspiracy theory that President-elect Trump was assassinated by a coalition of Western governments before he could destroy Mexico’s economy, give guns to toddlers, and nuke the Middle East.

Wait—what? There’s no such conspiracy theory, you say? President-elect Trump hasn’t been assassinated?

Ah, okay. Sorry, must’ve been a premonition/dream/desperate hope I had.

Instead, I’ll give you a round-up of story updates and some tips for writers on understanding the differences between literary and commercial fiction.

Rachel Can Still See wins the Hyde Cup 2016

hyde-cupYesterday I received a nice little boost for my recently completed short story, Rachel Can Still See. It won the Hyde Cup 2016, an internal Rushmoor Writers competition, organised and judged each year by the members. The story got great feedback, so my plan is to start submitting it immediately to publishers and short story competitions.

This story is one of the Million Eyes Short Stories and a sequel to Rachel Can See (though it can sensibly stand alone). Rachel Can See has just been published in Metamorphose V2 (more details below).

I won £25 and a little cup for my mantelpiece. Whoop! 😀

Million Eyes

I’m down to the last couple of chapters of my novel, Million Eyes. My copywriting busyness has skyrocketed, so I’m getting through it slowly. Planning a good old sesh over Christmas, so my hope is that I’ll have reached the end by the time we draw the curtains on 2016. Then I’ll be ready to start the final edit next year.

My interview on Spaced Out Radio looks at Princess Diana’s crash, Flat Earth, time travel and if Paul McCartney’s really dead

My interview on Spaced Out Radio is now available for listening! It aired live at 9pm Pacific time, 12am Eastern time and 5am UK time.

We ended up going for three whole hours, but seriously, they were the fastest three hours ever! Host Dave Scott was a lovely, friendly chap and we discussed a ton of interesting stuff.

The major topics we looked at were the uncomfortable questions surrounding Princess Diana’s deathFlat Earth Theory; the NASA moon landing hoax theories; the Royal Family being lizards; a conspiracy to cover up the existence of time travel; and whether Paul McCartney died long ago and was replaced by a duplicate (plus whether Heather Mills was at one stage trying to reveal the truth). We also touched on Roswell.

Please bear in mind that this was my first time ever on the radio! I’ve listened to some of it back and there’s a few too many “erms” for my liking, but it’s an interesting discussion and hopefully I’ve got some tongues wagging about these highly controversial conspiracy theories! I’ve also got some great ideas for future blogs, thanks to Dave and the audience members who asked questions. 😀

Best of all, I’m told that the audience “loved me” and Dave is mighty keen to have me back on the show in the future! Whoop!

You can listen on YouTube and you can download the show for free from iTunes. Right now it can also be listened to on Spaced Out Radio’s website, until the next show airs.

I’m going to be on Spaced Out Radio! October 25th Pacific Time, October 26th London Time

Howdy!

Next week I’ll be on Canadian online radio station, Spaced Out Radio, talking to host Dave Scott about UFOs, conspiracies, time travel and general weirdness. Eeeek! I’m nervous and excited but I’m sure it’ll be great fun — for me and for listeners!

The interview, I’m told, will last two hours and Dave wants my take on some of the stranger conspiracies, mysteries and monsters  out there. I’ve certainly covered some utterly crackers theories of late! Expect talk about royal lizards and Flat Earth. Hopefully we’ll get into some time travel urban legends (my favourites) and things like the Loch Ness Monster and the suicidal munchkin in The Wizard of Oz. I’ll also make sure to talk a little bit about my conspiracy fiction writing, namely Million Eyes and the Million Eyes Short Stories, which are ultimately the reason why this blog exists.

I understand I’ll also be answering questions from the audience in Spaced Out Radio’s chat rooms.

The show broadcasts from British Columbia and will start at 9pm Pacific Time, midnight Eastern Time, and 5am London Time.

And yes, as I’m a Brit on London Time, it’s going to be an early start for me! Hopefully I’ll be coherent. Thank you Flying Spaghetti Monster for inventing coffee.

The show will broadcast live on Spaced Out Radio’s website at all the times I’ve just mentioned, and you can also listen to it on Tune In. If you’re in the UK and, like most people, your bed is more important at that time in the morning, you’ll be able to listen to the show on the station’s YouTube page afterwards. I’ll post a link on the blog when I have it. I’m also told you’ll be able to download the show from iTunes.
