Sometimes the biggest mysteries are in things that we find. In physical remains that we survey. In objects and structures that we dig up.
Archaeology is the study of human history and prehistory through the recovery and analysis of manmade objects. Over the years, archaeologists have helped us build a timeline of prehistoric and ancient societies through to the present day.
But sometimes an archaeological discovery will come along and punch a great big hole in the established timeline, challenging our understanding of how our past really played out.
Here I will focus on artefacts that cannot be explained. Manuscripts that cannot be deciphered. Objects that don’t belong where they were found.
